Bob Hansen to Sing 7th Inning Stretch at Wrigley

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa Athletics Department, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, announced that former Hawkeye and NBA World Champion Bobby Hansen will sing the Seventh Inning Stretch on “Hawkeye Day with the Cubs” on Friday, Aug. 31. The Cubs will be hosting the San Francisco Giants at 1:20 p.m. (CT).

Hansen was a four-year letterman and a member of Iowa’s 1980 Final Four team. The Des Moines native was named the Hawkeyes’ team MVP his senior year in 1983. Hansen enjoyed a lengthy career in the NBA and earned an NBA championship while playing for the Chicago Bulls. Hansen played for the Utah Jazz (1983-90), Sacramento Kings (1990-91) and the Chicago Bulls (1991-92).

Hansen, who was named the Des Moines Register Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in 1999, is currently the color analyst for all Hawkeye men’s basketball games on the Hawkeye Radio Network.

Iowa head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.

The UI football team will play Northern Illinois in the 2012 season opener the following day, Saturday, at Soldier Field. Kick-off is slated for 2:32 p.m. (CT).
