McCaffery to Participate in Coaches vs. Cancer Hill Rally

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s basketball Coach Fran McCaffery and coaches from three other Division I universities are putting rivalries aside to team up with cancer advocates to urge Congress to protect federal funding for cancer research and prevention programs. Joining with cancer survivors and advocates from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and invited members of Congress, the coaches will lead a Capitol Hill rally Thursday, Sept. 13, to emphasize that the federal investment in cancer research, prevention and early detection programs is vitally important to helping people prevent and fight the disease.

The coaches are members of Coaches vs. Cancer®, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Coaches vs. Cancer includes more than 2,000 Division I, II and III college basketball coaches who have made a commitment to beat cancer, raising nearly $50 million since the program’s inception to fund cancer research.
