ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The University of Iowa men’s golf team completed the second round of play at the U.S. Collegiate Championship on the Lakeside Course at the Golf Club of Georgia. Junior Steven Ihm remained in the top-10 of the individual leaderboard, while the Hawkeyes carded a 303 (+15) and sit in 15th place.
Iowa shot a two-round total of 607 (+31) in the prestigious event after opening with a 304 on Friday. All but one team competing in the field is ranked or receiving votes in the GolfWorld/Nike Golf Coaches Poll. The final round of play will be Sunday, with tee times beginning at 8:40 a.m. (CT).
Ihm is tied for ninth place entering the final round after carding a two-round total of 144 (E). Ihm shot a three-over par, 75, in his second round. Ihm, who placed eighth at the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championship, had 14 pars in his round and a birdie on the par-four 14th hole. Ihm is five strokes off the tournament leader, Oklahoma State’s Taylor Gooch (-5).
Sophomore Brian Bullington carded Iowa’s lowest round of the day, and sits in 21st place with a two round total of 147 (+3). Bullington fired a one-over par, 73, fueled by a great front nine. Bullington made birdies on No. 1, 7 and 9, and shot a three-under par, 33. He shot four-over on the back nine to close his round at one-over.
Sophomore Ian Vandersee carded a 78 (+6) in his second round, and currently sits in 71st place with a 36-hole mark of 158 (+14). Sophomore Joseph Winslow also shot a 78 (+6), and is in 75th place with a two-round total of 159 (+15). Junior Ryan Marks is in 76th place after firing a 77 (+5) in his second round. Marks has a two-round total of 163 (+19).
