Evanston, Ill. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team competed in the second day of the Northwestern Invitational on Saturday. Iowa used a pair of 9-7 doubles victories as Joey White and Dominic Patrick won their final Flight A doubles consolation match to win their respective bracket, as well as Andres Estenssoro and Chase Tomlins. Both Hawkeye doubles teams will share the title of co-consolation champions.
White and Patrick defeated Brocket and Wareti of Toledo 9-7 to win the consolation side of their bracket. Additionally, Estenssoro and Tomlins defeated Hernani and Skylr of Marquette 9-7 to win the consolation side of their bracket and claim co-consolation champion honors.
Iowa also found success in consolation singles play as Patrick took down Terence Weigand of Toledo 6-1, 6-1 in Flight A. Additionally, Estenssoro defeated Gleb Skylr of Marquette 2-6, 6-4, (11-9) in Flight B. Both Patrick and Estenssoro will play their last singles match tomorrow at 8 a.m.
White and Tomlins both fell in Flight B singles competition.
Final round action at the Northwestern Invitational will conclude on Sunday.
