Madison, Wis. — Michael Swank and Jonas Dierckx of the University of Iowa men’s tennis team competed during day three at the Big Ten Singles/Doubles tournament. Jonas Dierckx rattled off two-straight victories to win his respective bracket.
Dierckx began his day by defeating Gijs Linders of Michigan State 6-3, 6-3 which advanced him to the championship match in the second Singles Back Draw bracket. Dierckx took down Mihir Kumar of Northwestern 7-6 (6), 4-6, 10-8 to win the bracket.
“Jonas played great all weekend,” Head Coach Steve Houghton said. “Anytime you win four-straight matches it’s very impressive.”
Overall, Houghton was pleased with his teams play in the final tournament of the fall season. “Fifteen individual wins in a tournament as tough as the Big Ten tournament is really impressive. It was definitely a great way to end the fall season.”
Men’s tennis won’t see action again until Jan. 25 when they host Illinois State at 4:30 (CT).
