ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Iowa volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Michigan on Saturday night (19-25, 10-25, 12-25). The match was played at Cliff Keen Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan.

The win improves the Wolverines’ record to 19-9 overall and 7-7 in Big Ten play; the Hawkeyes fall to 10-17 and 2-12 in league action.

Alex Lovell, a Michigan native, paced Iowa for the second-straight contest, tallying 10 kills. Lovell has 317 kills this season, eclipsing her total from a year ago (312) when she became the first Hawkeye freshman since 2005 to surpass 300 kills in a single season. Junior Rachael Bedell added seven kills and fellow junior Nikki Dailey led Iowa with 20 assists. Classmate Bethany Yeager, who ranks fifth all-time in program history with 1,447 career digs, recorded six digs.

Tied 7-7 in the opening set, Michigan used an 11-4 run to open an 18-11 lead. The Wolverines maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the frame, winning 25-19. The home team hit .409 in the first set, while limiting the Hawkeyes to a .219 hitting percentage. Lovell paced Iowa with four kills.

Michigan opened a 7-3 lead in the second set. The Wolverines extended their lead to 14-6, forcing a Hawkeye timeout. Iowa used its final timeout of the frame trailing 18-8. The home team claimed seven of the final nine points to win the second set, 25-10, and take a 2-0 match lead. Michigan registered a .450 attack percentage in the second, while holding Iowa to a -.115 hitting percentage.

After the intermission, the Maize and Blue grabbed an early 9-3 lead to force a Hawkeye timeout. The Wolverines extended their advantage to 11, forcing Iowa’s second timeout at 18-7. The league foes went back-and-forth throughout the remainder of the frame, giving Michigan a 25-12 set and match victory. The Wolverines hit .500 in the final frame, while limiting the Hawkeyes to a .118 attack percentage.

Iowa continues action Thursday, hosting No. 22 Purdue at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 7 p.m. The match against the Boilermakers can be seen live on BTN.com and Mediacom (MC22). The Hawkeyes swept Purdue on the road on Oct. 6.
