LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Iowa track and field team captured five first place finishes at the Adidas Classic on Saturday. The men’s team recorded a team score of 111 to finish second, while the women’s team (85 points) finished third. Host Nebraska swept the meet, with the men scoring 205.33 points and the women tallying 207.

Jasmine Simpson captured the first title of the day for the Hawkeye women. The junior’s personal best weight throw toss of 59-11 (18.26m) ranks fourth all-time at Iowa. Sophomore Annemie Smith (58-6 ¾; 17.85m; 3rd), junior Ashlyn Gulvas (57-8 ½; 17.59m; 4th), and senior Majesty Tutson (56-10; 17.32m; 5th) also scored points for the Hawkeyes.

Freshmen Klyvens Delaunay and David Nsabua finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s triple jump. Delaunay recorded a leap of 48-10 ¼ (14.89m). That mark ranks fifth all-time at Iowa, while Nsabua’s jump of 47-3 ½ (14.41m) ranks ninth.

Khanishah Williams reached personal best height of 5-9 ¼ (1.76m) to take first place in the women’s high jump. That mark ties for fourth all-time at Iowa.

Josh Larney took the men’s 60 meters title. Larney recorded a personal best time of 6.78. That time ties for fourth all-time at Iowa. Raven Moore earned a third place finish in the women’s 60 meters when she crossed the line in 7.65.

Senior Jon Michael Brandt earned a first place finish in the men’s 3,000 meters. Brandt recorded a personal best time of 8:30.55.

“I think both the men and women had some great highlights,” Larry Wieczorek, Director of Track and Field, said. “However, from a coaching standpoint, the gap between us and Nebraska really stands out. It just shows us how much work we have left to do.”

Seniors Jordan Mullen and Ethan Holmes recorded top five finishes in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. Mullen captured a second place finish with a time of 7.98, while Holmes finished fourth posting a time of 8.12.

Raven Moore recorded a second place finish in the women’s 200 meters. The junior crossed the line in 24.33. That time ranks ninth all-time at Iowa. Holmes ran to a second place finish in the men’s 200 meters. Holmes clocked a time of 21.63. Sophomore Torrey Campbell also competed in the event. Campbell finished fifth with a personal best time of 22.13.

Freshman MonTayla Holder ran to a second place finish in the women’s 400 meters. Holder’s time of 56.11 ranks 10th all-time at Iowa. Kaleb VanCleave finished fourth in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 48.64.

Senior Keaton Rickels (1:19.48), junior Nathan Prom (1:19.98) and senior Ryan Weir (1:20.38) finished first through third, respectively, in the men’s 600 meters. Sophomore Brennan Davey also competed in the event. Davey finished sixth when he clocked a time of 1:20.99.

Graduate student Lauren Scott (4:57.88) and freshman Lisa Gordon (4:58.04) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the women’s mile. Redshirt freshman Sam Fourman recorded a fifth place finish in the men’s mile. Fourman clocked a personal best time of 4:11.40.

Anthony Gregorio ran to a third place finish in the men’s 5,000 meters. The freshman crossed the line in 15:46.30.

Both the men’s and women’s 1,600-meter relay teams recorded second place finishes. The men’s team of Holmes, VanCleave, Rickels, and Davey recorded a time of 3:13.27, while the women’s team of junior Zinnia Miller, Moore, freshman Kaitlyn Nelson, and Holder clocked a time of 3:47.00.

Miller earned a second place finish in the women’s long jump. Miller recorded a personal best jump of 18-9 (5.71m). That mark ranks eighth all-time at Iowa. Larney’s jump of 23-0 (7.01m) earned him a fifth place finish in the men’s long jump.

Iowa will travel to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the Bill Bergen Invite on Jan. 25-26.
