THE SETTING
Iowa (11-3, 0-1) hits the road to face its second-straight top-five opponent when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete against No. 2 Michigan (14-0, 1-0). Tip-off is set for 11:01 a.m. (CT) at Crisler Arena. Sunday will be Iowa’s first visit to Ann Arbor since Jan. 30, 2011.

ON THE AIR
Radio: All Iowa games are broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network. Gary Dolphin handles the play-by-play, along with color commentator Bob Hansen. The network includes more than 40 stations that blanket the state of Iowa and include portions of Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. The Hawkeye Radio Network coverage includes a 60-minute pregame show. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on satellite radio: Sirius (123) and XM Radio (190).
Television: Sunday afternoon’s game will be televised on BTN. Gus Johnson and Shon Morris will call the action. The game is also available online, and on your phone or tablet at BTN2GO.

INDIANA SNAPS IOWA’S SIX-GAME WIN STREAK
? Indiana scored 40 of its 69 points in the paint in a 69-65 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten opener on Dec. 31 in Iowa City.
? Aaron White scored a team-high 15 points, marking the eighth time he has led the team in scoring this season.
? With 14 points, Roy Devyn Marble scored in double digits for the 13th time this season. He scored 12 of his 14 points from the charity stripe. In addition to the 14 points, Marble led the team in rebounding, pulling down a career-high nine boards.
? Mike Gesell (13 points) scored in double digits for the fifth time in his career.
? Iowa outscored Indiana 20-13 at the free throw line.
? Anthony Clemmons led the team in assists for the fifth time this year, with six.
? The Hawkeyes amassed 11 steals; four Hawkeyes had two steals each (Woodbury, Gesell, Clemmons, and McCabe). The 11 steals marked the fourth time this season Iowa had 10 or more thefts. Iowa has totaled 30 steals in its last three outings (South Carolina State, Coppin State and Indiana).
? The game was played in front of a sellout 15,400 fans in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Iowa’s first sellout of the season.
? The two teams combined to shoot only 7-of-31 (.226) from 3-point range. Iowa was 3-of-17 (.176).

HAWKEYE FASTBREAKS
? Sunday will be Iowa’s first game outside the state of Iowa since traveling to Virginia Tech on Nov. 27.
? Sunday will be only Iowa’s second game in 16 days.
? Iowa will play its first Sunday game of the season at Michigan. In fact, the Hawkeyes will be playing on Sunday four of the next five weekends, all on the road.
? Iowa has made 28-of-74 (.378) 3-pointers in four games away from home, while the Hawkeyes are 53-of-189 (.280) from long range at home.
? The Hawkeyes have played 10 players or more in 13 of their 14 games. The only contest in which it did not play 10 players was Iowa State (nine players). Iowa has nine players who average 16 minutes or more of action.
? Three of Iowa’s first four Big Ten games are on an ESPN network.
? Freshman Adam Woodbury averaged a team-best 7.7 rebounds the last three games.
? Freshman guards Mike Gesell and Anthony Clemmons have combined to post eight assists to one or fewer turnovers three times. Gesell against South Carolina State (8:1), and Clemmons vs. South Dakota (8:0) and Iowa State (8:1).
? Iowa has made (264) more free throws than its opponents have attempted (225), which is a staple of Fran McCaffery-coached teams.
? The Hawkeyes have four players who have made 12 or more triples: Marble (20), Oglesby (19), Gesell (15), and McCabe (12).
? After draining 11 or more 3-pointers against UNI (12) and South Carolina State (11), Iowa failed to make a 3-point field goal in 17 tries vs. Coppin State (Dec. 22). It marked the first time since March 2, 2011, that the Hawkeyes failed to make at least one trey.
? Iowa has had an attendance figure of 10,500 fans or greater in all 10 home contests, including a sellout of 15,400 against Indiana on Dec. 31.
? Iowa’s 12 triples vs. UNI are the second most by a Fran McCaffery-coached Iowa team. Roy Devyn Marble’s 30 points and 14 free throws made rank third and first, respectively, the last three seasons under Fran McCaffery.
? Iowa started three freshmen in its last seven outings: Anthony Clemmons, Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury. The last time the Hawkeyes started three rookies (Aaron Fuller, Matt Gatens and Anthony Tucker) was on Dec. 2, 2008, at Boston College.
? Iowa has won 14 of its last 16 home games, including nine of 10 this season, dating back to Feb. 1, 2012.

IOWA VS. RANKED TEAMS
Sunday will be Iowa’s second game of the 2012-13 season against a ranked opponent. The Hawkeyes fell 69-65 on Dec. 31 to fifth-ranked Indiana in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes collected four wins over top-25 competition a year ago. Iowa has won 10 of its last 21 home games against ranked opponents.

HEATING UP
Roy Devyn Marble’s game has soared as of late, rising to sixth in Big Ten scoring (15.6 ppg) after 14 games. He has scored in double digits in all but one game this year. In Iowa’s last five games, the junior has averaged 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. During the five-game stretch, Marble is shooting 82 percent from the free throw line (36-of-44).

ALL-TIME SERIES
Michigan holds an 89-58 advantage in the series that began with a 19-15 Wolverine win in 1912. The Wolverines have won nine of the last 11. Iowa snapped a six-game losing skid to Michigan with a 75-59 triumph in Iowa City a year ago. Three of the last eight meetings between Iowa and Michigan have gone to overtime, with Michigan winning two. Michigan holds a 49-22 advantage in games played in Ann Arbor, winning the last three. Iowa and Michigan did not play in Ann Arbor a year ago, only in Iowa City. Michigan holds a 5-0 advantage in games played at neutral sites, all in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan won 77-66 in 1998 at Chicago and 79-70 in the 2004 event at Indianapolis. Michigan has defeated Iowa in the first round at Indianapolis in each of the past three seasons, winning 55-47 in 2008, 73-45 in 2009 and 59-52 in 2010.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN
? Michigan, who is off to its second-best start in school history, opened Big Ten play with a dominant 94-66 road win at Northwestern Thursday night. The 94 points match the most points Northwestern has allowed during the Bill Carmody era.
? The Wolverines shot 59.6 percent (34-of-57) from the field, including 59 percent (13-of-22) from 3-point range, in the win over the Wildcats. All five starters scored in double figures, led by Trey Burke’s 23 and Tim Hardaway Jr.’s 21.
? Michigan has four players average in double figures in scoring: Trey Burke (18.1), Tim Hardaway Jr. (16.2), Nik Stauskas (13.6), and Glenn Robinson III (11.9). Burke ranks seventh in the country in assists (7.2), while Stauskas ranks first nationally in 3-point accuracy (.539, 41-of-76).
? The Wolverines have played only two games decided by seven points or less this season: (67-62 win over Pittsburgh and 79-72 victory over NC State).
? Michigan ranks third in the country in assist/turnover ratio (1.7); fourth in scoring margin (+22.1); fifth in fewest turnovers (9.9) and field goal percentage (.517); and 12th in 3-point field goal percentage (.421).
? Michigan boasts a perfect 9-0 record at home, averaging 11,584 fans this season.
? Michigan assistant coach LaVall Jordan previously served as an Iowa assistant coach for three seasons (2007-10).

TEAMMATES ON PREP ALL-STAR TEAM REUNITE
Iowa freshmen Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury, and Michigan rookie Glenn Robinson III were teammates in the All-American Championship prep all-star game last April in New Orleans. Woodbury posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Gesell had five assists and one basket. Robinson netted 16 points and was named the team’s MVP. Three of Gesell’s five assists were distributed to Robinson.

NUMBER OF THE WEEK — 6
Gabriel Olaseni has given the Hawkeyes a spark off the bench. The sophomore center averages 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in his last six games played. He also has blocked an average of two shots during that span, rejecting two or more in five of the six contests.

IOWA BEATS MICHIGAN IN LAST MEETING
Iowa snapped a six-game losing skid to Michigan with a 75-59 triumph in the only meeting a year ago in Iowa City on Jan. 14, 2012. Iowa scored the last five points of the first half to help build a 33-23 halftime cushion. The 13th-ranked Wolverines closed the gap to six with 12:42 left, but the Hawkeyes answered with a 10-0 surge and never again relinquished the double digit lead. Four Hawkeyes scored in double figures: Matt Gatens (19), Roy Devyn Marble (13), Aaron White (12) and Zach McCabe (11). Eric May and McCabe each pulled down seven rebounds, while Marble (4) and Bryce Cartwright (5) combined for nine assists. Michigan was led by Trey Burke (19 points) and Zach Novak (14 points and eight rebounds). Iowa sank 10-of-14 free throws in the last five minutes to help maintain its double digit advantage. Aaron White was 7-of-8 from the foul line the last three minutes.

BLOCK PARTY
Last season, Iowa amassed 199 blocks in 35 games (3.4 per game). So far this season, the Hawkeyes have been credited with 73 rejections (5.2 per contest), which rank second in the conference. Melsahn Basabe and Grabriel Olseni lead the team with 19 and 18 blocked shots, respectively, while freshman Adam Woodbury has 12. Olaseni, who ranks sixth in Big Ten blocks (1.4), swatted a career-high four shots in Iowa’s win over South Carolina State. He is the highest ranked player in the Big Ten who is not a starter.

`TIS THE SEASON FOR GIVING
Iowa has done an outstanding job sharing the basketball this season. The Hawkeyes have assisted on 65 percent of its field goal makes (234 assists on 360 field goals), a rate that is 11th best in the country. Iowa has assisted on 70 percent of its field goal makes the last seven games (138 assists on 197 made field goals) and 72 percent the last four contests (75 assists on 104 field goals).

CLEMMONS PROVIDING SPARK
Since Anthony Clemmons was first inserted into the Hawkeye starting lineup (Dec. 1), he has provided a spark. The native of Lansing, Mich., had a personal-best 14 points, including making two key buckets in the later stages of the second half, against Iowa State. Clemmons has registered 42 assists to 14 turnovers (3.0 ratio) in his seven starts. Clemmons’ 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio this year ranks 26th nationally.

BASABE, OGLESBY LEADING HAWKEYE RESERVES
Junior Melsahn Basabe, sophomore Josh Oglesby, and senior Eric May have been Iowa’s leaders off the bench. Basabe is averaging 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds. He also has rejected a team-best 19 shots, blocking four shots in two games (Central Michigan and Western Kentucky). Nineteen of Oglesby’s 23 field goals have come from beyond the arc (79 percent of his scoring). The sophomore averages 5.5 points in the early stages of the season. Oglesby has made two or more triples in six of the last eight outings played. He missed the Dec. 19 game against South Carolina State due to injury.

HAWKEYE DEFENSE IMPROVING
Last year, Iowa allowed opponents 72.5 points per contest. Through 14 games in 2012-13, Iowa is yielding 61.7 points. Iowa held Howard to 36 points on Nov. 15, which were the fewest points a Hawkeye team allowed since a 61-36 win over Bryant on Dec. 5, 2008.

IN NATIONAL STATISTICS…
Iowa ranks 17th in the country in field goal percentage defense (.370); 19th in assists (16.7); 22nd in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.279); and 24th in blocked shots (5.2). Individually, Anthony Clemmons ranks 30th in assist/turnover ratio (2.6).

WELCOME FRESHMEN
Iowa welcomes five newcomers to the fold for 2012-13. The newest Hawkeyes include guards Anthony Clemmons, Pat Ingram and Mike Gesell; forward Kyle Meyer and center Adam Woodbury. The class ranks 25th in the nation by ESPN.com.

IOWA POSTS LARGEST COMEBACK IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Iowa trailed Gardner-Webb by 23 points (38-15) with 13 seconds left in the first half on Nov. 17 in Iowa City. Sophomore Josh Oglesby drained three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt with one second remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 20 (38-18) at halftime. The Hawkeyes rallied in the second half and ultimately won by nine points (65-56), which is a 32-point swing. The comeback is believed to be the largest in school history. The last team in the country to overcome a 20+ halftime deficit was Harvard, which trailed Brown by 22 points (53-31) and won 85-78 on Feb. 12, 2011. The last Big Ten team to overcome a 20+ halftime deficit was Illinois, which trailed at Clemson by 20 points (47-27) and won 76-74 on Dec. 2, 2009.

HAWKEYES SPLIT AT CANCUN CHALLENGE
Iowa split its two games at the Cancun Challenge. The Hawkeyes beat Western Kentucky 63-55 in the semifinals, but fell to Wichita State 75-63 in the championship. Aaron White and Roy Devyn Marble were named to the all-tournament team. The Hawkeyes had three players score 21 points each in the two games (10.5 avg.): Eric May, Mike Gesell and Marble. White tied the Cancun Challenge record for most free throws made in the four tournament games with 28. White tied Ryan Thompson of Rider (2009). Iowa won preliminary round games against Howard and Gardner-Webb in Iowa City.

COACHING EXPERIENCE
Fran McCaffery has assembled one of the most experienced coaching staffs in the country. Assistant coaches Kirk Speraw, Sherman Dillard and Andrew Francis have over six decades of combined coaching experience. Furthermore, the entire coaching staff combines for 48 years of head coaching experience. Director of basketball operations Jerry Strom is in his 32nd season as a member of the Iowa basketball staff. Additionally, Iowa’s video coordinator, Al Seibert, has 18 years of collegiate coaching experience.

20-YEAR ANNIVERSARY
January 19, 2012 will mark the 20-year anniversary of the death of former Hawkeye Chris Street. Iowa will host Wisconsin at 7 p.m. that day. Street was killed in an auto accident in Iowa City on Jan. 19, 1993, 15 games into his junior season.

John Streif ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
John Streif, a member of the University of Iowa athletic department since 1972, has announced his retirement. Streif served as assistant athletic trainer for 40 years and added the position of travel coordinator in 1980. He has also served as a member of Iowa’s Athlete Assistance Program. “John has served the UI athletic department in a professional manner throughout his career, and to many he is the face of Iowa athletics,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics. “John’s service and dedication to our student-athletes, coaches and staff members is second to none. He has touched the lives of so many people, within the University of Iowa, the Big Ten Conference and college athletics. We congratulate John on his retirement and wish him nothing but the best, while knowing he will never be replaced.” A native of Manchester, Iowa, Streif joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant athletic trainer at West Point Military Academy from 1970-72. Streif also served three summers as assistant athletic trainer at the Detroit Lions pre season camps. “To think that I came to Iowa as a student in 1966, and have been a part of this department for so long, it’s been a great experience,” said Streif. “I feel so fortunate to have been involved with the University of Iowa and this department. It has been an honor and a privilege, and I am grateful to so many individuals, student-athletes and fans, who I have been able to work with throughout the years. They have impacted my life.”

University of Iowa basketball fans may join Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery and radio announcer Gary Dolphin for the “Hawk Talk with Fran McCaffery” radio call-in show. ON THE HORIZON
Iowa will return to Iowa City Thursday, Jan. 10, to host nationally-ranked Michigan State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Like Michigan, the Hawkeyes will only play Michigan State once during the regular season.
