Hawkeyes Capture 2 Titles in Day 1 of Iowa State Classic

Men’s Results | Women’s Results

AMES, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team captured two titles in the first day of competition at the Iowa State Classic on Friday.

Freshman Ardian Asani took the title in the men’s long jump when he recorded a personal best leap of 23-2 (7.06m). Sophomore Caleb Mere (21-4 ¼; 6.51m) and freshman Kerry Dean Jr. (21-3 ¼; 6.48m) finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the event.

Senior Kyle Reid and junior Jack Eckert recorded top three finishes in the men’s pole vault. Reid took the title when he cleared the 15-9 ¼ (4.81m) mark, while Eckert finished third with a vault of 15-3 ½ (4.66m).

Gabe Hull’s personal best weight throw toss of 59-5 ¾ (18.13m) secured a third-place finish. The sophomore’s toss ranks ninth all-time at Iowa. Senior Ben Stancombe also competed in the event. Stancombe finished ninth with a toss of 55-11 ¼ (17.05m).

Senior Rachel Curry earned a third-place finish in the women’s shot put with a toss of 46-3 ½ (14.11m). Junior Courtney Fritz (7th; 44-4 ¾; 13.53m) and senior Majesty Tutson (12th; 41-7 ¼; 12.68m) also competed in the event.

Junior Adrianne Alexia recorded a personal best time in the women’s 800 meters. Alexia crossed the line in 2:13.42 to finish third. Freshmen Neil Flattery and Will Teubel each recorded personal bests in the men’s 800 meters. Flattery clocked a time of 1:53.44 to finish seventh, while Teubel finished 31st with a time of 1:58.23.

Sophomore Rachel Price clocked a personal best time in the women’s mile. Price crossed the line in 5:05.80 to earn a 12th place finish.

Senior Cameron Rieger ran to a 15th place finish (8:35.11) in the men’s 3,000 meters, while sophomore Jocelyn Todd finished 18th (10:13.05) in the women’s 3,000.

Rachel Ballard recorded a seventh-place finish in the women’s long jump. The freshman posted a leap of 17-4 (5.28m). Sophomore Sarah Ryan earned an eighth place finish in the women’s high jump. Ryan recorded a leap of 5-0 ½ (1.54m).

Brittany Holst, a sophomore, recorded a fifth-place finish in the women’s pole vault when she cleared a height of 11-2 ¼ (3.41m). Kirsten Weismantle also competed in the event. The senior finished seventh with a vault of 10-8 ¼ (3.26m).

Freshman Kerry Dean Jr. finished seventh in the men’s triple jump. Dean recorded a leap of 44-3 ½ (13.50m).

Tutson and junior Chelsea Colpitts finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the women’s weight throw. Tutson recorded a toss of 52-10 (16.10m), while Colpitts posted a toss of 52-8 ¾ (16.07m).

The Iowa State Classic will resume Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT).
