400-Medley Relay Sets Record; Advances to Final

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team’s 400-medley relay advanced to tonight’s final at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The quartet of sophomore Grant Betulius, junior Andrew Marciniak and seniors Byron Butler and Jordan Huff posted a school-record time of 3:09.66 to finish 12th in the prelims and advance to tonight’s final. The Hawkeyes were seeded 18th in the event heading into the championships.

The relay has earned at least honorable mention All-America recognition.

Betulius opened the relay with an Iowa school record in the 100-yard backstroke. He broke the record a fourth time this season, touching out in 46.33 seconds. The previous mark was 46.70 set at the 2013 Big Ten Championships.

Finals are set to begin at 6 p.m. (CT) at the IU Natatorium.
