PALO ALTO, Calif. — Junior Steven Ihm played the three-round U.S. Intercollegiate at even par to lead the University of Iowa men’s golf team on the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. Ihm tallied his third top-20 finish of the season, finishing in a tie for 16th place. The Hawkeyes tied for 12th in the 17-team field, firing a three-round total of 858 (+18).

Iowa shot a 292 (+12) in today’s final round after carding a 284 (+4) on Thursday and a 282 (+2) on Friday.

Stanford claimed the title with a three-round total of 817 (-23). TCU (-17) and St. Mary’s (-1) also finished below par. TCU’s Paul Barjon won medalist honors with a three-round total of 199 (-11). The field included seven teams ranked within the top-50 of the Golfstat Rankings, and 26 players ranking in the Golfstat Cup Standings.

Ihm shot a two-over, 72, in his final round. The Peosta, Iowa, native played the front nine one-under with birdies on holes 1, 8 and 9. Ihm entered the final two holes at one-under before surrendering three strokes. Ihm played his eighth under-par round of the season at the event and improved his team-best stroke average to 72.5.

Sophomore Brian Bullington finished with his lowest 54-hole score of his career — a four-over, 214. The Frankfurt, Ill., native tied for 34th place after shooting a 72 (+2) in his final round. Bullington played his front side with five birdies and four bogeys. He made six pars on the final nine with three bogeys to close at two-over. His opening round 69 (-1) tied a career low score.

After shooting a six-over final round, sophomore Joseph Winslow finished tied for 59th at nine-over (219). For the third straight day, Winslow birdied the par-five, 521-yard first hole. Winslow played the front nine a combined two-under on the tournament.

Freshman Nate Yankovich tied Iowa’s mark for lowest round of the day, shooting a 72 (+2) to finish with a 54-hole score of 220 (+10). The Blacklick, Ohio, native went two-over on the front nine before playing the backside even par with seven pars and one birdie. Yankovich made eight birdies in the tournament.

Sophomore Ian Vandersee tied for 89th with a three-round total of 228 (+18). Vandersee had a solid second day score with an even par round, but the West Des Moines native couldn’t match that in the final day, shooting an 82 (+12).

Iowa returns to action April 13-14 hosting the 20th-annual Hawkeye – Great River Entertainment Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
