IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team (7-13, 0-8) fell to No. 48 Michigan State (10-11, 4-4) Friday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, 5-2.
Iowa took down Michigan State in doubles play winning the first two matches. Garret Dunn and Matt Hagan defeated Linders and Jadun of Michigan State 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles slot. Joey White and Michael Swank then followed suit as they beat Pfister and Bogatov of Michigan State 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles slot. Jonas Dierckx and Juan Estenssoro did not finish their doubles match once the point was decided.
The Hawkeyes struggled in singles action, falling in 5-of-6 matches. Among the highlights, Hagan picked up a singles victory defeating Bogatov of Michigan State, 6-0, 6-3 in two sets.
“I thought we played a very good match against a very good team, said head coach Steve Houghton. “I was very pleased with our doubles play and individually with Matt Hagan who seems to be coming into his own. I give our guys credit for being very resilient through some tough times. I’m confident that sooner rather than later they will get rewarded.”
The Hawkeyes hit the courts next on Sunday as they take on Michigan at 11 a.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Admission is free.
