Box Score

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team (7-14, 0-9) fell to No. 24 University of Michigan (13-7, 8-1) Sunday afternoon, 7-0.

Michigan gained the doubles point to start the match as Iowa fell in 2-of-3 doubles matches. Senior Garret Dunn and sophomore Matt Hagan recorded Iowa’s lone doubles victory defeating a ranked opponent as they took down King and Buzzi of Michigan, 8-4 who were ranked No. 37 in the nation for doubles.

The Hawkeyes struggled in singles play falling in all six matches. Jonas Dierckx and Juan Estenssoro fell to ranked opponents.

“We had a very good win in doubles play beating the 37th ranked team in the country,” said head coach Steve Houghton. “The final team score didn’t represent how close the individual matches were. Over the last two to three weeks we’ve made significant improvement and have been competitive in virtually all our matches. It’s still not too late for things to come together.”

The Hawkeyes see action next on April 19 as they host Wisconsin at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
