COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament Thursday afternoon to Northwestern, 4-1.
After the Hawkeyes fell in their first doubles match, they battled back to win two in a row and gain the doubles point. Matt Hagan and Garret Dunn took down Wolf and Pasareanu of Northwestern, 8-5, to pick up Iowa’s first doubles victory. Next, Jonas Dierckx and Juan Estenssoro defeated Kumar and Smith, 8-5, to secure the doubles point.
Iowa struggled in singles action losing four matches in straight sets. Juan Estenssoro and Michael Swank did not finish their singles match once Northwestern had gained four points to win the match.
The Hawkeyes will be returning 10-of-11 players next season, most of which gained valuable experience this spring season in both doubles and singles.
