TUSCON, Ariz. – Three University of Iowa track and field athletes competed in day one of the Jim Click Shootout multi-event competition on Thursday. The Hawkeyes recorded five personal best marks on the afternoon.

Sophomore Sarah Ryan is in 14th place after day one of the women’s heptathlon competition. Ryan recorded a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 36-6 ¼ (11.13m). She finished ninth in the event. Ryan also recorded a ninth-place finish in the 200 meters when she crossed the line in 26.06. Ryan’s 100-meter hurdles time of 15.50 earned her a 15th place finish, while her high jump leap of 4-10 ½ (1.49m) was good enough for a 16th place finish.

Senior Kyle Reid and junior Jack Eckert competed in day one of the men’s decathlon. Reid is in 11th place after five events. The senior recorded personal bests in the 100 meters (11.23; 2nd) and the shot put (36-0; 10.97m; 19th). Reid recorded a second-place finish in the 400 meters when he crossed the line in 48.84. He finished 18th in the long jump with a leap of 20-4 ½ (6.21m), and cleared a height of 5-10 (1.78m) to finish 20th in the high jump.

Eckert is in 15th place after the first day of competition. He recorded personal best marks in the shot put (39-10; 12.14m; 14th) and high jump (6-1 ½; 1.87m; 11th). The junior clocked a time of 51.06 to finish eighth in the 400 meters, while he ran to a 23rd place finish in the 100 meters (11.87).
