GREENSVILLE, S.C. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team concluded doubles play and the third round of singles play at the 27th annual Furman Fall Classic on Saturday.
After a first round defeat on Friday, junior Shelby Talcott bounced back on Saturday and defeated Brigit Folland of South Carolina, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the Flight One Singles bracket. Talcott was Iowa’s lone victor in singles play on Saturday and faces Tennessee’s Joanna Henderson in a battle for fifth place at 8 a.m. (CT) tomorrow.
“Another tough day for us results wise but everyone battled and looked better today than they did yesterday,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “We’re looking forward to another day of high level competition tomorrow.”
The Hawkeyes will wrap up the three-day tournament beginning at 8 a.m. (CT) tomorrow at the Mickel Tennis Center.
