Sep 4, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa men’s golfers — Brian Bullington, Steven Ihm, and Joseph Winslow — appear on the 2013-14 Big Ten Men’s Golfers to Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.

Bullington, a native of Frankfort, Ill., finished the 2013 regular season with three-straight top-24 finishes, compiling a 73.92 spring stroke average. He tied for 22nd at the Big Ten Championships with a 72-hole score of 301 (+13) and shot a 214 (+4) three-round score at the U.S. Intercollegiate, his career low tournament score. Bullington, a junior, placed 13th at the Illinois State Amateur this summer.

Ihm, currently 46th in the Men’s World Amateur Golf rankings, won the Sunnehanna Amateur Championship with an eight-under par (272) four-round score in June. He also competed in the John Deere Classic in July, his first career PGA TOUR event. During the spring season, Ihm had the lowest scoring average (71.4) for the Hawkeyes, playing nine rounds at or below par. He shared medalist honors at two events (Hawkeye Invitational and Boilermaker Invitational), and was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week on April 24. Ihm garnered PING All-Midwest Region honors and first team All-Big Ten accolades.

Winslow was a second team All-Big Ten selection, a PING All-Midwest Region honoree, and was named to the All-Big Ten Championship Team in 2013 as a sophomore. His 73.48 stroke average ranked 10th best in program history. The Overland Park, Kan., native totaled two top-10 finishes, five top-20 finishes and played 11 rounds at or below par. Winslow, a 2012 honorable mention All-American, tallied back-to-back top-five finishes, placing fourth at the Boilermaker Invitational (216/E) and fifth at the Big Ten Championships (292/+4).

The UI men’s golf team opens its season Sept. 15-17, hosting the annual GolfWeek Conference Challenge at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The Hawkeyes are looking to make their sixth-straight NCAA postseason appearance in 2013-14.
