“We had a solid practice round yesterday and we were ready to play on the first hole,” said head coach Mark Hankins. “This is only the first round and we will look to continue our discipline and determination throughout the weekend.”
Vandersee continued his success from last week’s Rod Myers Invitational, and has scored par on 51 of his last 72 tournament holes.
Georgia Tech, host of the U.S. Collegiate, carded a 279 (-8) on Friday, and holds a five-stroke lead over second place Oklahoma State.
Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech, the 2012 tournament champion, shot a 66 (-6), and is tied with Virginia’s Ben Rusch for the individual lead.
The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday morning, with tee times ranging from 11:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (CT). Live stats are available at GolfStat.com, and a live webcast is available at www.theUSCC.org.
