IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished sixth at the Fighting Camel Classic hosted by Campbell University at the Keith Hills Golf Course. The Hawkeyes fired a 308 (+20) in the final round Tuesday to accumulate a 919 (+55) tournament total.

Junior Shelby Phillips was Iowa’s top finisher. Phillips fired a 74 (+2) in the final round to finish the tournament in a tie for sixth with a 224 (+8), marking her second top-10 finish of the season.

“It’s great to see Shelby finish sixth this week,” said UI head coach Megan Menzel. “She played two really solid rounds, and it was a good confidence booster to end the fall season.”

Sophomore Briana Midkiff carded a 79 (+7), putting her 54-hole score at 232 to finish tied for 25th.

Freshman Jessie Sindlinger and senior Nicole Rae ended in a tie for 29th place both, carding a 233 (+17) tournament total. Sindlinger fired a 79 (+7) on the day, while Rae made seven pars to finish the final round with a 76 (+4).

Senior Karly Grouwinkel shot an 83 (+11), finishing the tournament with a 238(+22) to tie for 43rd.

“The fall showed some good improvement individually, and I think with some good work during the off season this team will be able to put together a solid spring campaign,” said Menzel.

The Hawkeyes kick off their spring schedule Feb. 23-24 in Peoria, Ariz., at the Westbrook Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will take place at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.
