Season Ticket Sales Soaring; Single Game Sales Next Week

Oct. 4, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Season ticket sales for the home games of Fran McCaffery’s 2013-14 University of Iowa men’s basketball team have already exceeded last year’s totals and total season ticket sales could surpass 10,000 for the first time since the 2002-03 season, the UI Athletics Department announced today.

The UI Athletics Ticket Office has processed orders and assigned seats for more than 8,700 season ticket orders for the upcoming season. That total is more than 1,000 better than a year ago and the UI is still accepting season ticket requests.

“Clearly, fans are excited about the great work Fran, his staff, and our student-athletes have done over the past three years. It’s been fun to watch Carver-Hawkeye Arena become the home court advantage that we want it to be and need it to be if we are going to reach our goal of being in a position to compete for a Big Ten regular season championship,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics.

All three categories of season tickets – general public, UI faculty and staff, and UI students – are up year-over-year and, in the case of season ticket purchases by the general public and UI faculty and staff, the UI Athletics Ticket Office has already sold more season tickets this year compared to all of last year.

“We are still accepting season ticket requests from the general public and our faculty and staff. We are also accepting season ticket orders from UI students and we think it’s possible that sales of season tickets to UI students could approach 3,000,” said Pam Finke, the UI’s director of athletic ticket operations.

Finke said fueling the surge in ticket sales is a boost in requests from fans who want to become new season ticket holders. The UI Athletics Ticket Office has received more the 2,200 such inquires since last March when McCaffery’s squad was winning four games in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament to advance to the championship game in New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Finke’s office received 390 requests after the Hawkeyes’ 2011-12 season.

The UI Athletics Ticket Office will begin accepting orders for single-game tickets to the home games of the 2013-14 Hawkeyes from members of the National I-Club and season ticket holders who are not members of the National I-Club next week before opening up single-game sales to the general public on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The online sales will begin at 8 a.m. and phone and walk up sales will begin at 9 a.m. .

Here is that schedule with limits per order that apply against Iowa’s B1G/ACC Challenge game against Notre Dame and all of its games against Big Ten Conference opponents that will be played on Saturday or Sunday.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 9: Members of the Kinnick Society (8 tickets per game)
  • Thursday, Oct. 10: Champion Hawks (6 tickets per)
  • Thursday, Oct. 10: Golden Hawks (4 tickets per)

  • Tuesday, Oct. 15: Season ticket holders who are not members of the National I-Club (4 ticket per)

The UI Athletics Ticket Office will accept orders for single-game tickets beginning at 8 a.m. each day for orders that are placed online, and 9 a.m. each day for orders that are placed by phone or in-person.

Fans of the Hawkeyes interested in attending the 2013 Hy-Vee Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena in December when the Hawkeyes plays Drake and Iowa State squares off against Northern Iowa are reminded that they should place their ticket order with the UI Athletics Ticket Office by the close of business on Thursday, Oct. 10.

The UI Athletics Ticket Office is also currently selling tickets to the annual Black and Gold Basketball Blowout, the first public appearance for the UI’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. The Blowout will be staged on Friday, Oct. 25, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
