IOWA CITY, Iowa — The 18th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell to Michigan State Saturday afternoon at Grant Field in their regular season finale, 4-3.

Michigan State struck first as Abby Barker scored off a rebound at the 1:16 mark. It was Jamieson again scoring an unassisted goal at the 14:40 mark to extend the visitors lead to two. The Hawkeyes fought back as Marike Stribos scored her fourth goal of the season to cut the lead in half. Stribos beat the Michigan State goalkeeper with a blast from the top of the circle. However, Jamieson struck again for the Spartans just before half time for her second goal of the game, redirecting a pass off a corner.

It was Jamieson once again opening up the scoring in the second half for the Spartans for her third goal of the game to extend the visitors lead to, 4-1. Iowa responded quickly with a goal from Dani Hemeon to cut the lead in half once again. Hemeon buried the shot off a feed from Stribos at the top of the circle. The Hawkeyes stayed on the attack as Niki Schultheis scored at the 46:38 mark to bring Iowa within a goal.

Iowa outshot Michigan State, 21-7, and out cornered the Spartans, 11-4.

“We showed grit and resiliency today coming back,” said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “I think our team has what it takes to do well in the Big Ten Tournament next week.”

The Hawkeyes return to action on Nov. 7 in the Big Ten Tournament in Columbus, Ohio.
