IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field team opens its 2013-14 season with the Black and Gold Intrasquad meet Saturday. The event will be held at the UI Recreation Building beginning at 4:30 p.m. (CT). Admission is free.
The Hawkeye men’s team returns four outdoor All-Americans, including seniors Tevin-Cee Mincy and Ethan Holmes, sophomore Klyvens Delaunay, and junior Gabe Hull. Mincy and Holmes each competed on the 400-meter relay team that finished sixth at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships, while Delaunay earned an eighth-place finish in the triple jump. Junior Gabe Hull received second team accolades after finishing 15th in the discus. Holmes also earned second-team honors for his 10th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
The women’s team welcomes back sophomores Lake Kwaza and MonTayla Holder. Kwaza led the team in the 60 (indoor) and 100 (outdoor) meters. Kwaza’s personal-best 60 meters time ranks fifth all-time at Iowa, while her best 100 meters time ranks fourth. Holder paced the team in the indoor 400 and 600 meters. Her times rank 10th and fourth, respectively, on Iowa’s all-time list. Holder also led the team in the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. Her personal-best time currently ranks seventh all-time at Iowa.
The Hawkeye track and field team officially opens the indoor season Jan. 18 hosting the Big Four Invitational.
