Grastorf Garners Pocock All-America Second Team Honor

June 9, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Freshman Morgan Grastorf earned 2014 Pocock All-America Second Team honors on Monday, as announced by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). She is the third member of the University of Iowa rowing program to earn an All-America award since 2006.

“This is a terrific thing for Morgan and a real feather in her cap in her first year of rowing,” head coach Andrew Carter said. “There is no doubt that she will continue to be a significant figure on our team moving forward, and I know she will join her teammates in leading Iowa rowing into the future. With this recognition, Morgan has set a great standard, and I know she will push others to join her on the list of All-Americans in the coming years. Our program will only be better for it.”

Grastorf was a successful high school basketball player at Waubonsie Valley and was recruited to row for the Hawkeyes beginning in the fall. The first-year rower has enjoyed much success in her debut season as a member of the V8+ crew.

The Naperville, Illinois native, recently earned first team All-Central Region honors from CRCA on May 29. She was the first Hawkeye freshman rower to earn an all-region nod since Katy Kroll was a second team selection in 2010.

Grastorf was also invited to and is currently attending the 2014 USRowing Women’s Pre-Elite Camp in Princeton, New Jersey. The camp — which began on June 8 and runs through June 22 — trains up-and-coming rowers for the national teams. She was one of 16 student-athletes and one of eight freshmen invited to attend.
