BEIJING, China — Former University of Iowa All-American Erik Sowinski represented Team USA in the men’s 800 meters at the World Championships on Saturday and Sunday. He ran 1:46.63 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals, where he placed seventh in his heat in 1:47.16.
During his time at Iowa, Sowinski earned seven All-America honors and won the 2012 Big Ten indoor 800 meters championship. He holds school records in the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, and ran on the record-setting 1,600-meter and distance medley relays.
