IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team saw the end of its tournament run today at the Big Ten Indoor Men’s Championship at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex.
Lefteris Theodorou was the only Hawkeye left in contention for the singles title after the opening day of competition yesterday. This morning the Hawkeye sophomore faced top-seeded Dusty Boyer of Nebraska. Boyer took the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Dominic Patrick played in the consolation bracket today where he defeated Northwestern’s Jason Siedman, 6-3, 7-5.
Sophomore Jake Jacoby and freshman Jonas Larsen also won their consolation matches today. Jacoby beat Wisconsin’s John Zordani, 6-4, 7-6(5), and Larsen won his match against Alan Sweet of Wisconsin, 7-5, 6-3.
After losing both matches yesterday, Nils Hallestrand grabbed a win in consolation play against Minnesota’s Jesse Sprinkel. Hallestrand won easily in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Junior Robin Haden and freshman Tony Leto both lost their consolation matches today. Haden fell to a nebraska’is Brad Zitsch, 6-3, 7-6(10) and Leto dropped his match, 6-2, 6-2, to Michael Dube of Michigan State.
