MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team split eight matches during Day 3 of the 2016 ITA Division I Women’s Central Regional Tournament in Minneapolis.
The Hawkeyes were 4-2 in doubles competitions and dropped both singles matches.
On the top side of the women’s doubles tournament, Zoe Douglas and Elise van Heuvelen advanced through the Round of 32 with an 8-2 win over Oklahoma. The duo then dropped an 8-6 decision to Oklahoma State in the Round of 16.
Montana Crawford and Carin Runefelt were 2-0 in doubles Saturday, earning 8-3 and 8-2 wins. Anastasia Reimchen and Kristen Thoms split a pair of matches, winning 8-5 in Round 1 of the consolation round before falling 8-3 in Round 3.
On the singles side, Crawford and Runefelt both dropped close matches. Runefelt fell to Jieke Stroobant of Northern Iowa, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10), and Crawford lost in straight sets to 7-6 95), 7-6 (6).
The Hawkeyes finished the ITA Regional Tournament with a combined 14-12 record in singles and doubles. They return to the court Nov. 3-5 at the Kitty Harrison Invite in Raleigh Duhram, North Carolina.
