ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team grabbed a, 5-2, win over the women of the United States Naval Academy inside the Hooper Brigade Sports Complex.
Junior Zoe Douglas and freshman Elise Van Heuvelen improved to 8-1 in the top doubles spot with a win, 6-4, over Navy’s Amanda Keller and Kaylah Hodge.
The Hawkeyes picked up the doubles point on courts one and three.
In singles, Van Heuvelen and sophomore Adorabol Huckleby saw straight set wins. The Hawkeyes won, 7-5, 6-1, and, 6-4, 7-5, respectively.
Senior Aimee Tarun is now 5-1 in singles play at No. 6. The Winnetka, Ill. native faced Hodge for a, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(3) victory.
“We gave a great team effort today against a feisty, competitive Navy team,” said UI head coach Sasha Schmid.
The Hawkeyes return to action March 11 at 10 a.m. (CT) against Indiana inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center.
