IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to Old Dominion on Monday, 4-3, in Norfolk, Virginia. The Hawkeyes split six singles matches, earning wins at the No. 3, 5, and 6 singles positions, but dropped the deciding doubles point.
“We lost a heartbreaker today,” said UI head coach Sasha Schmid. “This was such a great match for us. It was a great competitive battle that we needed to make us stronger. We are looking forward to getting to Miami to train and get ready for FIU.”
Senior Aimee Tarun was first of the court for the Hawkeyes. The senior defeated Nataliia Vlasova in straight sets, 6-2 6-2. Junior Montana Crawford followed defeating Natalya Malenko in straights sets, 6-0 6-3.
Sophomore Kristen Thoms picked up a win at the No.3 position defeating Eliska Petrackova in straight sets, 6-2 6-4.
The Hawkeyes return to the courts Saturday as they take on No. 38 Florida International at 11 a.m. (CT) in Miami, Florida.
