IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to Illinois (9-9, 3-1), 5-2, on Friday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
“You have to give credit to Illinois today. It was a tough battle,” said UI head coach Sasha Schmid. “It’s obviously disappointing to lose and it was hard fought there down the stretch. We just need to regroup, stay hungry, and get ready for Northwestern.”
The Hawkeyes started the day winning the doubles point. Junior Zoe Douglas and sophomore Kristen Thoms were first off the court for Iowa defeating Alexis Casati and Daniela Novak, 6-4.
Freshman Elise van Heuvelen and sophomore Adorabol Huckleby defeated Louise Kwong and Ines Vias in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (6), to clinch the doubles point.
Junior Montana Crawford picked up the Hawkeyes only singles victory winning in three sets, 6-7 6-3 7-5, at the No. 6 position.
