IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team split its matches on Friday against DePaul and No. 2 Ohio State inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Iowa began the day with a 7-0 win over the Blue Demons before falling to the nationally-ranked Buckeyes by the same score in the nightcap.
In the first match against DePaul (11-9), Iowa swiftly grabbed the doubles point with wins on courts two (6-3) and three (6-3). All six Hawkeyes in action picked up victories in singles competition against the Blue Demons.
Senior Nils Hallestrand picked up his first victory in his final campaign in the Black and Gold, registering a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Boris Spanjaard in the six spot. Freshman Jason Kerst also saw action today, beating Fran Tonejc, 7-5, 6-3, before falling to Ohio State’s Kyle Seelig, 6-4, 6-2.
Jake Jacoby, a junior on the Hawkeye squad, split his two singles matches. Playing on court three for the first time since his freshman season, Jacoby took down DePaul’s Alex Galoustian, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). He then fell to fourth-ranked Hugo Di Feo, 6-2, 7-6, of Ohio State (19-3, 3-0).
The Hawkeyes (11-8, 1-3) are back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT) for a matchup against Penn State inside the HTRC. Admission is free to the public.
