Hawkeyes Finish 7th at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRALNKLIN, Tenn. – The University of Iowa men's golf team finished seventh in the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club. The Hawkeyes registered a 288 (+4) in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 854 (+2).

FRALNKLIN, Tenn. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished seventh in the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club. The Hawkeyes registered a 288 (+4) in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 854 (+2).

34529Florida claimed the team title after firing an 822 (-30; 276, 275, 271) to edge second-place Alabama by one stroke. Host Vanderbilt finished in third in the 14-team field at 826 (-29; 277, 277, 272).

“We didn’t have the start we needed and struggled to get anything going,” said UI head coach Tyler Stith. “Fortunately our round today didn’t cost us any position.”
 
Sophomore Matthew Walker led the Hawkeyes with a 15th-place finish. The sophomore fired an even-par 71 in the third round. The Ottumwa, Iowa, native finished at or below par in all three rounds on his way to a total of 210 (-3). His final round was highlighted by 11 holes at par and four birdies on holes one, eight, 14, and 18.

 Senior Carson Schaake had the second-best finish of the tournament for the Hawkeyes, finishing 27th. Schaake carded rounds 68 (-3), 72 (+1), 73 (+2) on his way to a three-round score of 213 (E). The senior recorded 14 holes at-or-below par in the final round, including birdies on holes and 15 and 16.
 
Senior Raymond Knoll finished one stroke behind his teammate with a 54-hole score of 214 (+1). He carded rounds of 72 (E), 66 (-5), and 76 (+5) to tie for 31st. The senior marked 10 holes at par with birdies on holes one and 18 in the final round.
 
Freshman Alex Schaake tied for 45th with a total of 220 (+7). Schaake posted rounds of 72 (+1), 77 (+6), and 71 (E). He made par-or-better on 14 holes in Sunday’s final round, including four birdies on holes four, 10, 14, and 18.
 
Freshman Ryoto Furuya rounded out the Hawkeyes with a three-round score of 231(+18; 77, 81, 73) to tie for 70th. The freshman carded 14 holes at par and a birdie on hole 15 in the final round.

“Overall, we had some good moments and individual performances,” said Stith. “We have time to work on our games and prepare for the Hawkeye Invitational.”
 
The Hawkeyes return to action when they host the Hawkeye Invitational at the Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, on April 15-16.
