COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Iowa men’s golf team posted a three-round total of 899 (+47; 300, 293, 306) at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. The Hawkeyes posted one of their best finishes at the event, finishing in third place.
Tenth-ranked Illinois posted a final-round 284 (E) to claim medalist honors, finishing at 12-over-par for the tournament. No. 12 Kent State followed in second at 874 (+22).
Senior Carson Schaake registered three birdies en route to a final round 73 (+2). Schaake led the Hawkeyes carding a 54-hole total of 218 (+5; 75, 70, 73) to tie for third. It marked Schaake’s second top-10 finish of the season.
Sophomore Matthew Walker posted back-to-back 74’s in the second and third round moving his 54-hole total to 223 (+10). Walker finished in 13th place — his sixth top-20 finish of the season.
Senior Raymond Knoll finished in a tie for 28th after putting together a three-round total of 228 (+15; 78, 71, 79). Freshman Alex Schaake finished at 235 (+22) for the tournament, after rounds of 72, 81, and 82. Schaake finished tied for 52nd.
Freshman Jack Simpson rounded out the Iowa lineup, tying for 68th. He posted a 54-hole total of 240 (+27; 82, 78, 80).
The Hawkeyes finished ahead of six Big Ten teams, including 49th-ranked Penn State. Iowa will tee it up at the Big Ten Championships on Friday, April 28th in Baltimore, Maryland. The Championship will be held at Baltimore Country Club.
