IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team topped Kirkwood Community College, 5-3, in its second fall contest Sept. 22 at Pearl Field.
Sophomore pitcher Allison Doocy did not allow a hit or a run, throwing eight strikeouts, including five in a row, through 3 2/3 innings for the Hawkeyes. Reliever Erin Riding recorded four strikeouts through 5 1/3 innings.
Freshman Aralee Bogar and senior Allie Wood were both 2-for-5 with a home run, while Wood chipped in another run. Seniors Sarah Kurtz and Cheyenne Pratt and sophomore Taylor Libby had multi-hit games. Kurtz and Libby each scored a run. Junior Mallory Kilian, senior Angela Schmiederer, and sophomore Havyn Monteer each added hits.
The Hawkeyes open the Big 4 Classic on Friday, hosting UNI on Friday at 6 p.m. at Pearl Field. Iowa faces in-state rival Iowa State on Saturday at 1 p.m. before closing the tournament against Drake on Sunday at 3 p.m.
