IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Gold team posted a 2-0 victory over the Black team on Friday afternoon at Duane Banks Field to win the Black & Gold World Series. The two teams only played three innings due to limited pitching.
Connor Nelson’s RBI single in the second inning gave the Gold team a 1-0 lead. The Gold team pushed its lead to 2-0 in the third. Freshman Brett McCleary walked the bases loaded before sophomore Grant Judkins had a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore Kyle Shimp didn’t allow a hit on the mound for the Gold team in 1 2/3 innings but was pulled due to a pitch count.
The Gold team’s win marks the end of Iowa’s fall season. The Hawkeyes will open the 2018 season Feb. 16-18 in Kissimmee, Florida.
