Hawkeyes Ranked 6th in Midwest Region

Hawkeye Fan Shop — A Black & Gold Store | 24 Hawkeyes to Watch – 2017-18 | Hawk Talk Monthly — October | Fight For Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s cross country team is ranked sixth in the Midwest Region, jumping up six spots in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. It marks the men’s highest ranking since 2010 (fifth).

“The ranking is just a ranking,” said UI cross country head coach Randy Hasenbank. “You can’t pay attention to it too much, but it does show that if our men collectively get on the same page on the same day they have a lot of potential. If we put it all together on the right day we can get a pretty good result and we saw that last weekend.”

The Hawkeye men placed 14th at the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, finishing in front of five regionally ranked opponents, including No. 4 Florida State (South), No. 4 Baylor (South Central), No. 6 Butler (Great Lakes), No. 8 Notre Dame (Great Lakes), and No. 8 Wichita State (Midwest).  Nathan Mylenek and Daniel Soto led the way for Iowa, placing 44th and 69th respectively.

The Hawkeyes conclude their regular season at the Bradley Invite on Friday, Oct. 13, in Peoria, Illinois. The postseason begins Oct. 29 in Bloomington, Indiana.
