SKOKIE, Illinois — The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished in seventh place at the Windon Memorial with a 54-hole team score of 850 (+10; 276, 283, 291). Sophomore Alex Schaake paced the Hawkeyes at the par-70 Evanston Golf Club with a career-tying 54-hole score of 208 (-2; 68, 70, 70).
Schaake tied for fifth place with two other golfers and was two strokes behind co-medalists Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) and Brendon Doyle of Indiana. Big Ten competitors Penn State and Northwestern tied for the team title at five-under-par 835.
Junior Matthew Walker tied for 20th, his third top-25 finish of the year, after carding a season-best 54-hole score of 213 (+3; 68, 71, 740). Walker tied the tournament most with 41 pars in three rounds.
Alex Moorman fired a career-best 54-hole score of 215 (+5; 67, 72, 76) to tie for 29th place. Moorman’s first-round 67 was two strokes off the 18-hole tournament low of 65.
Sophomore Benton Weinberg quietly finished the tournament in a tie for 33rd. Weinberg had two birdies in his last six holes to register a three-round 216 (+6; 73, 70, 73).
Freshman Jake Rowe, who was competing as an individual in the tournament, turned in his best collegiate 18-hole score with a third-round 71 (+1). Rowe had two birdies on the day and tied for 75th.

NOTABLES
- Schaake’s finish at the Windon Memorial was his second top-5 finish of the season, and was the only Hawkeye golfer to have all three rounds at or below par.
- Four of the top seven teams in the tournament were from the Big Ten.
COACH STITH’S COMMENTS
“The weather was perfect for scoring. Our opponents took advantage of it and we didn’t. We know we have the ability to get ourselves in contention, but we have to close better. Alex was in contention all day and managed himself well. He’s comfortable in those situations. He needed a few more putts to drop today.”
NEXT TOURNAMENT
The Hawkeyes take a weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 23-24 in their last fall event at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas.
