IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s rowing team is holding a supplemental walk-on tryout the week of Jan. 22-27. Interested students must contact assistant coach Megan Fitzpatrick to participate.
A note from UI head coach Andrew Carter:
“The nationally-ranked Hawkeyes have traditionally been fueled by athletes transferring into rowing from other sports and we aim to identify the next group of Big Ten and National contenders.
“The January tryout will be a focused event consisting of tests of fitness, power, and athletic aptitude. Those who demonstrate the potential for success at the Big Ten and NCAA Championship level in the future will move forward in the development stream of the program. The intent is to have new student-athletes racing by the spring season.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our team and for serious athletes interested in embarking on a new sporting career. The foundation of our development class has been laid over the past four months and we’re looking for two to four student-athletes who can really add to that foundation.
“Our mid-year tryout has yielded some of our team’s top performers over the years so we’re confident it will once again be an exciting opportunity for those who may have missed the open fall tryouts, were hesitant to commit so early in their freshman year, or regret not coming out in September.”
