Broussard, La. – After cancelations due to weather on Saturday and a quick rain delay Sunday morning, the University of Iowa softball team concluded action at the Mardi Gras Classic in Broussard, Louisiana, on Sunday afternoon. The Hawkeyes fell in both games, dropping a 6-4 decision to UIC before falling to Louisiana-Lafayette, 9-0.

The Hawkeyes came out swinging in the first inning against UIC with Aralee Bogar leading the charge at the top of the lineup. The freshman knocked a single down the left field line and later scored on an RBI double off the bat of redshirt sophomore Brooke Rozier.

Senior Allie Wood sent one over the left field fence in the third inning, scoring sophomore Alex Rath along the way. Iowa added a run five plays later when senior Daniella Ibarra shot a single up the middle to plate sophomore McKenzie Schneider.

UIC made up ground in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on four hits and Hawkeye miscue for the win.
