IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team dropped their match Sunday to No. 27 Ohio State, 6-1, inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

38006The Buckeyes grabbed the doubles point with wins on all three courts. In a matchup between top 50 teams, No. 47 sophomore Elise van Heuvelen and senior Anastasia Reimchen lost to No. 29 Anna Sanford and Shiori Fukuda, 6-3.

In singles action, junior Adorabol Huckleby was the lone winner for the Hawkeyes at the No. 4 position. Huckleby won her first set 6-4, but dropped her second set, 7-6 (1-7), which forced a third set tiebreaker. She went on to top Emma DeCoste in the tiebreaker, 10-6.

“Sasha came over to me and told me to have great energy, to fight for my teammates, take every ball one at a time and to keep my focus and that really helped me,” Huckleby said.

At the No. 2 position, senior Zoe Douglas lost her first set, 6-1, before going on a run of 10 straight games. She recorded a 6-0 shutout in the second set to force a third-set tiebreaker, but dropped a thriller to No. 86 Shiori Fukuda, 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3).

QUOTING HEAD COACH SASHA SCHMID
“We have to figure out a way to learn and not be satisfied. We are going into a really important stretch here, so we have to pull ourselves back up and get ready for really difficult on the Big Ten matches on the road.”
