Hawkeyes Finish Day 1 of Pac-12 Invite

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The No. 17 University of Iowa women’s rowing team faced off against No. 2 Cal and No. 10 Stanford at Redwood Shores on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Morning Session: The Hawkeyes NCAA boat classes faced off against Cal in the morning session of the Pac-12 Invitational. Afternoon Session: Iowa raced against Stanford in the afternoon session. The I Varsity Eight crew (6:22.2) fell to the Cardinal by a margin of six seconds. In a closely contested race, the II Varsity Eight crew (6:31.6) shaved three seconds off their morning time but lost to Stanford by a margin of two seconds. The I Varsity Four crew (7:29.1) lost to the Cardinal by a margin of seven seconds.

HEAR FROM COACH CARTER

“Today’s matches were an incredible test to start our racing season.  Cal and Stanford are certainly fast and that was confirmed for us today.  That said, I’m very pleased with the performances of our crews.  They raced both of those teams very well and finished with very respectable margins.”

“We really learned a lot today as well.  We had our share of bumps in the racing, but I think that’s to be expected for our first day of competition.  We’ll be working to address some of those areas with the aim of being prepared for another tough match against USC in the morning.”
