UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No.  48 Penn State on Sunday at Penn State’s Indoor Tennis Center.

The Hawkeyes won the doubles point for the 18th time this season. Sophomore Kareem Allaf and junior Jonas Larsen, ranked No. 51 nationally, won their match on court one, 7-5, over Penn State’s Antonopoulo/Sentay. Freshmen Will Davies and Piotr Smietana defeated the Nittany Lions’ No. 2 doubles squad, 7-6, for their team-best 14th doubles win of the spring. Senior Jake Jacoby and freshman Joe Tylerlost their first doubles match in the last eight decisions on court three.

Penn State jumped out to a 3-1 lead after winning the first three singles matches on courts one through three. Allaf and Davies won in straight sets to even the match, 3-3. Davies recorded his 12th win of his last 14 decisions, dating back to Feb. 11. The match was ultimately decided on court six with Larsen falling in three sets to Penn State’s Alp Sentay, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

NEXT MATCH:
Iowa returns to home next weekend for a match against Indiana on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT). Then the Hawkeyes take on Purdue at noon (CT) on Sunday. Admission is free to the public. Iowa is 11-4 at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex this season.
