IOWA CITY, Iowa — Purdue scored three runs in the fourth inning to post a 3-1 victory over the University of Iowa softball team Friday evening at Bob Pearl Field.

Runners left on base proved to be the difference as the Hawkeyes stranded nine runners in the contest.

The Hawkeyes found the scoreboard first, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Allie Wood singled to center field and later scored on one of Taylor Libby‘s two doubles in the game.

The Hawkeyes threatened in the bottom of the fourth when they loaded the bases with no outs, however the runners were stranded after two strikeouts and a putout to end the frame.

Sophomore Allison Doocy (13-13) took the loss in the circle. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits and four walks. She struck out six in seven innings of work.

“We had runners on base, but unfortunately we didn’t capitalize and take advantage of those opportunities today. We need to be ready to attack from the first pitch tomorrow afternoon.”
