Hawkeyes Falter at Big Four Classic

IOWA CITY, Iowa—The University of Iowa softball team competed in the Big Four Classic this weekend in Ames, Iowa. The Hawkeyes went 0-2.

Iowa kicked off play with a 9-2 loss to Northern Iowa. Saturday’s game two against Drake was cancelled in the sixth inning due to weather. Iowa trailed 5-0. On Sunday, Iowa fell to Iowa State, 17-0.

Sarah Lehman opened in the circle for Iowa against UNI. She pitched three innings and tallied two strikeouts before Miranda Schulte entered in the fourth inning and struck out three in the fourth and fifth innings. Erin Riding followed to close out the game in the sixth inning and notched three more strikeouts.

Iowa got off to a slow a start with the bats. Late in the game, the bats got going with Aralee Bogar’s RBI in the eighth inning.

Allison Doocy got the nod for Iowa against the Cyclones. Riding came in in the second inning, tallying one strikeout and Lehmen entered in the eighth inning and recorded a strikeout of her own.

Iowa closes out its fall season this weekend with three games at Bob Pearl Field. Iowa hosts Indian Hills Community College on Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), and a plays doubleheader against Illinois State on Oct.7. Admission is free.
