IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team moved up the start time to Friday’s fall finale against Kirkwood Community College at Duane Banks Field, but Mother Nature still didn’t cooperate. The Hawkeyes led 7-0 through four innings before lightning and rain moved in, forcing the game to be halted and eventually cancelled.
The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double from sophomore Izaya Fullard before adding three in the third and three more in the fourth before the game was stopped because of lightning. Iowa finished with nine hits with four going for extra bases.
Fullard finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while junior Grant Judkins and senior Tanner Wetrich also had two RBIs. Elion and Wetrich registered doubles, while Judkins ripped a triple in the game.
On the mound, senior Cole McDonald and sophomore Cam Baumann limited the Eagles to one hit and punching out six. McDonald had four strikeouts in two innings, while Baumann followed with two more in two innings.
Iowa returns to action Wednesday with game one of the Black & Gold World Series. Game time is set for approximately 3 p.m. (CT) and action is open to the public.
