IOWA CITY, Iowa — Six players scored in double figures and the University of Iowa men’s basketball team shot 57.1 percent from the field in a 103-46 exhibition victory over Guilford College on Sunday afternoon on Mediacom Court inside Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Freshman Joe Wieskamp led the Hawkeyes, scoring 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Redshirt junior Isaiah Moss finished with 13, juniors Tyler Cook and Maishe Dailey had 12 points apiece, sophomore Luka Garza had 11, and junior Cordell Pemsl added 10 points.
Iowa also got a nine-point outing from Ryan Kriener, an eight-point effort from Jack Nunge, and seven points from Connor McCaffery.
The Hawkeyes made 38-of-66 field goals, including 12 3-pointers and the team registered assists on 24 of their 38 makes.
Iowa controlled the glass, 46-31, and forced 27 turnovers, but Iowa committed 18 turnovers in the game.
After playing to a six-all tie over the first four minutes, Iowa followed with a 17-0 run over a four-minute stretch to build a 23-6 advantage. The Hawkeyes held Guilford under the 10-point barrier until the 8-minute mark and took a 52-30 lead into the locker room.
Iowa’s biggest lead came with 1:59 remaining when Nunge’s 3-pointer pushed the lead to 101-43.

“There’s a lot to learn. The thing about an exhibition game is that you’re not playing Guilford, and Guilford isn’t playing Iowa, both teams are trying to get better. They’re working on some things, we’re working on some things. We wanted to stay after them defensively, even when we got a lead. I thought for the most part we did that. They scored at the end of their shot clock sometimes and that’s always disappointing because that means you played pretty good defense for 27-28 seconds. We have some things to work on, but again we have an unselfish team. A lot of different guys scored.”

After testing the NBA Draft process, Cook displayed his all-around game in the exhibition victory. The forward made 5-of-6 field goals, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range. He also led the team with nine rebounds and seven assists in 32 minutes.
IN DEFENSE
Iowa’s defense limited the Quakers to 30.2 percent shooting (19-of-63) and 5-of-22 from 3-point range. No Guilford player scored in double figures; Carson Long and Kyler Gregory led the team with eight points apiece.
OF NOTE…
- Junior Jordan Bohannon didn’t play because of a bone bruise allowing redshirt freshman Connor McCaffery to start in his place.
- Iowa had a 50-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 45-3 advantage in fast-break points.
- Eleven different Hawkeyes scored in the game.
- Iowa finished with 15 steals with Moss leading the way with three steals.

The Hawkeyes open the regular season Thursday, hosting UMKC at 7 p.m. (CT) in a preliminary round game of the 2K Classic Benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
