MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Iowa softball team (18-27, 4-15 Big Ten) played Minnesota (36-10, 17-1 Big Ten) in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. Iowa lost both games by scores of 9-0, 8-0.
 
Junior Lea Thompson robbed a home run off of Hope Brandner in the bottom of the third, in game two.
 
The Hawkeyes got complete game efforts out of pitchers Sarah Lehman (game one) and Allison Doocy (game two).

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Game 1
 
Freshman Cameron Cecil wasted no time, hitting a double down the left field line in the first inning, but she was left on base.
 
Minnesota scored two, on a two-run home run in the bottom half of the first.
 
The Gophers struck again in the second off of a double and a single.
 
Sophomore Ashley Hamilton notched a single in the third inning but was stranded.
 
Minnesota added one run in the third inning with a RBI single. The Golden Gophers added four runs in the fourth inning, including a three-run home run.
 
The Hawkeyes fell to the Golden Gophers, 9-0.
 
Game 2
 
Minnesota struck first again in game two with a run in the second inning.
 
The Hawkeyes threatened in the top of third with a hit from junior Lea Thompson but she was left on base.
Thompson returned in the bottom half of the third to make the highlight of the day for the Hawkeyes, robbing a home run off of Minnesota’s Hope Brandner.
 
Minnesota fought back in the same inning, scoring one run with a RBI double.
 
Minnesota added insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run.
 
The Gophers won off of a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to force the run-rule by a score of 8-0.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
 
Sophomore Sarah Lehmann pitched a complete game in game one.
 
Junior Allison Doocy pitched a complete game earning seven strikeouts in game two.
