GymHawks Advance to 2nd Round at NCAA Regional

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The University of Iowa women's gymnastics team qualified for the second round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional, defeating Arizona, 195.850 to 194.550, on Thursday afternoon in the first round.

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team qualified for the second round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional, defeating Arizona, 195.850 to 194.550, on Thursday afternoon in the first round.

The GymHawks will compete tomorrow in the second session of the second round against Florida (4), Oregon State (15), and Stanford (24).

ALL-AROUND

Junior Charlotte Sullivan won the all-around competition with a 39.175. Sullivan scored a 9.800 on floor, beam, and bars. She scored a 9.775 on vault.

VAULT

The GymHawks started on vault with a 48.800. Sophomore Erin Castle tied a career high on vault with a score of 9.750. Junior Charlotte Sullivan and freshman Lauren Guerin both
notched 9.775s. Senior Misty-Jade Carlson and freshman Bridget Killian both contributed 9.750s.

BARS

Iowa started some momentum on bars taking the lead with a 48.925 on the event and an overall score of 97.725 to Arizona’s 97.650. Senior Nicole Chow tied a career high of 9.900. Freshman Jax Kranitz contributed a 9.850. Junior Clair Kaji and Sullivan both scored 9.800s.

BEAM

The GymHawks kept their energy going on beam as they built on their lead, bringing it to 146.650-146.275. Chow and Kaji scored 9.850s with standout routines. Sullivan scored a 9.800 and Carlson with a 9.725.

FLOOR

Iowa finished the meet with their highest rotation score of the night, 49.200. Guerin earned a 9.900, to tie a career high. Kaji notched a 9.875.  Freshman Bridget Killian scored a 9.825. Sullivan and Castle both scored 9.800s.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Erin Castle tied a career high on vault with a 9.750.
  • Senior Nicole Chow tied a career high of 9.900 on bars to win the bars title.
  • Freshman Jax Kranitz contributed a 9.850 on bars.
  • Chow and Kaji scored 9.850s on beam, sharing the event title.
  • Freshman Lauren Guerin earned her seventh 9.900 of the season on floor to win the event.
  • Kaji earned a 9.875 on floor.
  • The GymHawks earned a 49.200 on floor – their highest total of the night.

UP NEXT
The GymHawks will compete tomorrow in the second round, session two, of the NCAA Corvallis Regional at 9 p.m. (CT). The top two teams in each session will go onto the Regional Final on Saturday.
