IOWA CITY, Iowa — The final tally looked more like a football score as the University of Iowa baseball team routed the Ontario Blue Jays, 30-6, in 14 innings on Friday night at Duane Banks Field.
The Hawkeyes scored in nine of 14 innings, including a four, five, five, and seven-run frame. Iowa finished with 27 hits, including six doubles, three triples, and two home runs.
Sophomore Connor McCaffery’s performance highlighted Iowa’s night, as the outfielder finished with five hits. He was 5-for-7 with three doubles, a solo home run, and four RBIs. He was one of seven players to tally multi-hit games.
Freshman Peyton Williams connected on a first-inning grand slam on the first pitch of his at-bat, and he finished 4-for-7 with five RBIs. Junior Trenton Wallace was 3-for-6, while freshman Paul Vossen (2-for-3), junior Izaya Fullard (2-for-4), freshman Sam Link (2-for-5), and senior Matthew Sosa (2-for-5) all had two-hit days.

Fourteen different Iowa hurlers tossed one inning with sophomore Duncan Davitt, Wallace, senior Trace Hoffman, senior Grant Leonard, and junior Ben Beutel tossing 1-2-3 innings. Davitt struck out the side in the second.
Iowa will host its annual Scout Day on Sept. 20 before welcoming Indian Hills Community College to Duane Banks Field on Sept. 27.
