Minneapolis, Minn. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team jumped right back into the action during day two at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis. The Hawkeyes won three doubles matches and three singles matches on Saturday.
In round three of doubles, juniors Danielle Bauers and Ashleigh Jacobs defeated River Hart and Isabella Lambert from Minnesota, 6-2. Freshman Erika Dodridge and sophomore Cloe Ruette lost to Cammy Frei and Lucia De Santa Ana from Minnesota, 6-2.
In round four of doubles Dodridge and Ruette were victorious against University of Northern Iowa’s Valentina Caro and Madeline Doherty, 6-2. Bauers and Jacobs won 6-1 against Tiana Glazbook and Jenna Noel from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
In singles draw A, both Jacobs and Ruette were victorious. Jacobs bested Carmen Palumbo from Drake 6-2, 6-3. Ruette beat Isabella Sullivan from North Dakota 1-6, 6-1, 6-0
In Draw B junior Danielle Burich was defeated by Minnesota’s Eikin Ercetin 6-3, 7-5. Burich will compete for third place on Sunday vs. Ting-Pei Chang from Iowa State.
In Draw C Bauers was defeated by Hart from Minnesota 6-3, 6-3. Bauers will play in the third-place match on Sunday vs. Chie Kezka from Iowa State.
In Draw D Erika Dodridge advanced to the championship match by beating De Santa Ana from Minnesota 6-4, 6-4. Dodridge will play Oumaima Aziz from Iowa State on Sunday.
“Today was overall positive for us, we made some good adjustments from Friday,” said head coach Sasha Schmid. “Danielle and Ashleigh played very well in doubles, and it was good to see Erika get another solid singles win in her first college tournament. We are looking forward to a strong final day tomorrow.”
The Hawkeyes continue action Sunday at 9 a.m. (CT)
