IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell and sophomore Samantha Mannix will compete this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Van Heuvelen Treadwell will compete in the pre-qualifying singles round, and team with Mannix in the qualifying doubles round.

“It is a great opportunity, it’s really an elite national tournament. It’s an honor to be invited to play,” said head coach Sasha Schmid. “It is going to be exciting to see how Sam and Elise do in doubles, and how Elise does in singles against really the top players in the nation this early in the season. I think it’s a good test, and you learn a lot from playing such high-level players.”

This will be van Heuvelen Treadwell’s second time competing at the tournament. She last competed when she was a sophomore in 2017. She had a record of 1-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.

“I think it is a really exciting opportunity going to All-Americans, especially with Sam,” said van Heuvelen Treadwell. “I’ve experienced it once before my sophomore year. It is going to be a good opportunity, first matches back since last spring.”

Singles will be played Saturday and Sunday with three wins needed to advance to the qualifying draw on Monday and Tuesday. Two more wins are needed to advance to the main draw from Wednesday to Sunday.

Doubles will be played Monday and Tuesday and teams must win three rounds to advance to the main draw.

“I am super excited. It’s a huge opportunity for both Elise and I,” said Mannix. “It is really exciting to play some of the best players in the country.”

The tournament is hosted by the University of Tulsa. It takes place across multiple sites including the Michael D. Case Tennis Center and the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park.
